2014年12月MTV台整季预订了该剧，这是MTV进入有剧本节目领域以来最具雄心的一个新项目，故事根据Terry Brooks撰写的系列奇幻小说《沙娜拉之剑》改编。《超人前传》（Smallville）的创作人Al Gough和Miles Millar将撰写该剧的剧本，电影《忍者神龟》（Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles）的导演Jonathan Liebesman担任前两集的导演，他们三人还将兼任执行制片人。Terry Brooks本人亦担任执行制片人。Jon Favreau原本应该导演首集，但因为档期冲突而未能如愿，他将保留执行制片人的身份。 在奇幻文学的历史上，从1977年开始出版的《沙娜拉之剑》是与《魔戒》、《地海传说》、《黑暗塔》、《龙枪》、《真理之剑》等巨著齐名的经典作品，前前后后一共有25本书。故事发生在人类文明毁灭数...。The Palm Desert band Eagles of Death Metal was performing at the Bataclan theater in Paris in November 2015 when terrorists opened fire, killing 89 people.
